Our Annual Campaign
RAHAT- FLOODS
|
| |
For the last few years GOONJ.. has
annually been initiating ‘RAHAT- FLOODS’ to collect
relief material for the lakhs of victims in Assam, Bihar,
West Bengal & flood affected states during monsoon every year.
Last year the success of this campaign was evident in the
widespread participation of corporates, RWAs, educational
institutes, schools & individuals who joined hands to
reach maximum number of people affected by these floods.
These areas are flooded every year around the same time &
its still not considered a disaster. This year our campaign
has already begun from April and we are regularly sending
large consignments of different relief material in the effected
areas. The idea was also to reach this material beforehand
in the affected areas as a part of disaster preparedness.

this, our efforts to make this annual disaster a matter of

OUR STRATEGY..
Is
to involve all segments of society. We are initiating a number
of collection camps in a number of cities . A large number
of Resident Welfare associations, educational institutes and
corporate houses are becoming a part of this. The emphasis
is on creating such a massive awareness that we keep collecting
material even after the immediate relief work to support the
people during rehabilitation.
In these few years GOONJ.. has tried its best to make this
annual disaster a matter of concern, so that people understand
this annual trauma of millions of people and come forward
to support.
THE MAIN ISSUE
- is to keep a very low expenditure
on purchase of material and more expenses on creating awareness
and collecting it from people. This approach is more economical
and it makes a base for the coming years.
|
|
THE
DISTRIBUTION METHODOLOGY
We
stress a lot on sorting of material as in normal circumstances
over 40 % material which come from people is a wastage i.e..thy
are torn or useless. With our systems in place we sort out
every single cloth, make separate packs for male, female etc
and do a need base distribution.
The exercise might take two days extra but saves us from the
wastage of resources which occur when we send these to people
without maintaining the dignity of beneficiaries.
The
distribution will take place through the trusted network of
GOONJ..
distribution partners
for VASTRADAAN. GOONJ.. has been
working with many NGOs in these states for the last few years
and maintains a very good feedback system. In normal circumstances
these NGOs even give us a list of beneficiaries and their
acknowledgements. In this situation also we’ll have
enough visual proofs of proper distribution.
We
have tied up with a network of ASHOKA FELLOWS working in these
areas and trying to reach in the remote parts through them.
Distribution in some areas will also take place in direct
supervision of volunteers from GOONJ..
